At approximately 6:26 PM on Saturday, October 18, the Todd County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a fire-related accident resulting in serious injuries. The incident occurred in rural Cushing and involved two individuals who sustained burns while attempting to start a campfire. Ambulance According to the investigation, Nathaniel Larson, 34, was using a can of gasoline to ignite the fire when the container caught fire and exploded. Jody Larson, 65, who was nearby, suffered severe burns in the explosion. Jody was airlifted by North Memorial Air-Care to a medical facility for treatment. Nathaniel sustained serious burns to his hands and was transported by Staples Ambulance to Lakewood Health System Hospital. Emergency services responding to the scene included the Todd County Sheriff’s Office, Browerville Fire Department, Long Prairie Ambulance Service, Lakewood Health System Ambulance Service, and North Memorial Air-Care. The incident remains under investigation.
