A Bemidji man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly assaulting a woman with a knife and hatchet. 41 year old Joshua Beaulieu, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and failure to appear. According to the criminal complaint filed in Beltrami County District Court, Bemidji police responded to an apartment on Itasca Loop around 1:36 a.m. Jan. 31. Officers found a woman with a large laceration on her forehead and a half-inch cut on her neck. The woman told police Beaulieu had been staying at her apartment. She said he tried to touch her sexually on Jan. 29, and when she refused, he became angry and punched her in the head about five times. The complaint states Beaulieu then held a knife to her throat and threatened to stab her if she didn’t have sex with him. He then stabbed her in the neck, according to the complaint. The woman was taken to the hospital and received eight stitches on her forehead. Police learned both a knife and hatchet were used in the assault. The complaint states the woman told police Beaulieu threatened to “come back and cut her throat.” Beaulieu has prior convictions for second-degree murder in 2007 and third-degree assault in 2021. He also faces pending charges of first-degree drug sale and third-degree DWI filed in September 2025. Beaulieu failed to appear for a court hearing Feb. 2, resulting in the additional failure to appear charge. He is now in custody at the Beltrami County Jail.
