Minnesota State Trooper Death
The Minnesota State Patrol is mourning the loss of one of their troopers. They say they are “deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Trooper Mollie McClure following an off-duty accident on Waubay Lake in South Dakota.” According to Day County Emergency Management, authorities responded to a report of a drowning at the lake on Sunday afternoon. Crews recovered a body on Monday afternoon. Trooper McClure joined the Minnesota State Patrol in October 2021; she served in the St. Cloud district. Throughout her career, Trooper McClure trained trooper academy cadets, served as a peer counselor and participated in a workgroup focused on increasing the number of female troopers within the agency. Beyond her official duties, the State Patrol says Trooper McClure’s passion for helping others was widely recognized. In 2023, a video of her rescuing a baby deer trapped in a roadside fence went viral on YouTube. She was also a frequent and beloved presence at recruiting events, where her ability to connect with people was greatly appreciated.
