The suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting at the Frazee Rest Stop Wednesday night has now been identified. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MN BCA) is identifying the suspect as 36-year-old Todd Ole Burris of Bemidji. According to the Ottertail County Sheriff’s Office the incident began around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, when the Becker County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic assault in the 20000 block of Becker County HWY 21. Authorities had been told that the suspect, now being identified as Burris, had entered a residence, physically assaulted a victim and stole a firearm. We’re told Becker County Authorities later made contact with his vehicle in Detroit Lakes. Burris allegedly then fled from them prompting a pursuit. Becker County Sheriff’s Dept. was assisted in the pursuit by Detroit Lakes PD, MN State Patrol and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit continued onto U.S. Highway 10 and extended into Otter Tail County when Burris pulled into the Frazee Rest Stop. When Authorities made contact with Burris, an officer-involved shooting occurred. It’s currently unclear which agency the officer who shot Burris was with. Burris was eventually taken from the scene to Fargo Essentia where we’re told he’s now in stable condition. The MN BCA says when Burris is released from the hospital he will likely be booked into the Otter Tail County Jail on a charge of suspicion of aggravated assault. No officers involved were hurt. Officers were wearing body cameras during the encounter. The MN BCA investigation into the incident is ongoing with no further information available at this time.
