Plane Crash

A 73-year-old pilot was hurt after a small plane crashed in a farm field north of Pelican Rapids, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say they received a report of a possible plane crash at 8:14 a.m. Monday. The aircraft was found unoccupied in a field about three miles north of Pelican Rapids in Pelican Township. Investigators determined the crash actually happened the evening before, Sunday, September 27 around 5:20 p.m. The pilot, identified as David Ness of Minneapolis, was the lone occupant and operator of the small personal plane. Authorities say he suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was later taken to Lake Region Hospital by private vehicle. The Pelican Rapids Police Department, Pelican Rapids Fire Department and Pelican Rapids Ambulance assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.
