Two people are in jail after a pursuit and standoff situation in Douglas County, on Monday afternoon that closed down part of I-94 for a time. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, authorities attempted a traffic stop of a reported stolen vehicle at a rest stop off I-94 in Alexandria around 12:12 p.m. on Monday, September 15, when the driver of the vehicle allegedly fled. During the pursuit, authorities say they laid down stop sticks, but the driver avoided them. They then successfully tried a PIT maneuver, causing the vehicle to spin out. The driver of the vehicle reportedly tried to get away, but deputies used their squad cars to pin the vehicle against a guard rail near Evansville, MN. Authorities say they gave verbal commands to the driver and his passenger to exit the vehicle. They have been identified as 41 year old Nicholas Sleen,of Tower, MN, and 20 year old Allison Jacobs, of Eveleth, MN, respectively. After repeated attempts to get the two to exit the vehicle, authorities eventually deployed Pepperball, which caused them to exit. Both Sleen and Jacobs were given treatment and taken to Douglas County Jail, where they face a multitude of charges, including fleeing in a motor vehicle, 5th degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property, and prohibited persons in possession of firearms or ammunition. I-94 was shut down at the Evansville exit during the incident.
